Projects Penoyre House, Cradoc, Brecon

Dawson Stone Masonry Ltd started work in 2005 on the restoration of this Grade II listed Bath stone building which dates back to 1848 and was in a state of disrepair since its closure as a nursing home in 2003.

The property was acquired for redevelopment into high end housing with opulent surroundings and stunning views over the Brecon Beacons.

Dawson Stone Masonry Ltd worked for main contractor Bluewater Homes, with the project overseen by CADW and Davies Sutton Architects and integrating with other trades and phases of scaffolding the restoration works were extensive and lasted over almost 18 months, stretching into 2007.

The building required replacement only where absolutely necessary in order to retain as much as possible of the original building fabric, small areas of balustrade, ashlars and copings were replaced, new Bath stone window surrounds were provided for the light well windows to the basement apartments.

The entire main building was sympathetically cleaned which brought spectacular results to the finished project. The property development also involved converting the barns at the rear of the property into 4 new homes, the external brickwork was sandblasted free from paint residue and cement render before being re-pointed in a specialist mortar.
